At 120+ Star in Super Mario Galaxy 2

May 31, 2010

Tonight I beat Super Mario Galaxy 2 with 120 stars and then only started towards the 240 mark before ending my gaming tonight. It’s not really a surprise, but Galaxy 2 is a great game so far, one of the best on the Wii. The challenge was almost always there for me but it was never so overwhelming that I ever felt like I couldn’t get a single star. Most of my deaths were simply error on my behalf and sometime continuous error for 10 or 20 lives. Because lives are so plentiful I never Game Over-ed for the first 100 or so stars. It was only at the tail end of the first 120 stars that I saw the game over screen more than a few times because lives don’t carry over from play session to play session, so if you turn off the game you start back with 5 lives. I could have easily farmed a whole bushel of lives at what I call Starship Mario’s Casino, but I was too lazy and focused of getting those last few stars. Frankly, I wasn’t expecting to use as many lives as I did to get the last 7 stars I needed tonight.

As far as game particulars; Super Mario Galaxy 2 is one of the most visually stunning and appealing games I have ever played even when compared to HD games.

Fire Flower: Wish it wasn’t timed.

Rock Mushroom: I like this one a lot too. Bowling with this was a nice touch.

Bee Mushroom:  Still a little lame.

Drill Bit: Drilling though the ground was fun, nice change in gameplay.

Cloud Flower: Great, really like how it makes Mario a little floaty.

Spring Mushroom: Difficult to control, maybe too difficult, would rather have a Boot.

Boo Mushroom: Pretty much pointless, only used once and not interesting.

Luigi is back, I tend to use him a lot just because I like him.

Yoshi is new to the Galaxy series and more useful than ever. His power ups are gained by eating different fruits and are all implemented well.

Most of the levels were great, some just good. The only galaxy I didn’t like was the Sunshine Galaxy, I thought it was boring. I also would rather have the Jibberjay gliding galaxies and the Star Ball galaxies be parts of other galaxies and not stand-alone, but they are still fun.

Now, the only question is…

Now that I finished the first 120 stars, do I take a break from Super Mario Galaxy 2 and play one of my many other games that are waiting to be played, or do I keep going and get the second 120 stars?

And as always, be sure to check out my Nintendo themed podcast on iTunes, Wii Are Fanboys.

Xenoblade Commercials

May 31, 2010

Xenoblade looks like a good game and part of a whole host of games the have recently come out or will soon come out that Nintendo desperately needs to satisfy the diehard Nintendo fans (Super Mario Galaxy 2, Zangeki no Reginleiv, Sin & Punishment, The Last Story, Metroid Other M). Unfortunately Xenoblade’s release falls shortly after Galaxy 2 in Japan and I would really like to see it do well in the sales department to encourage Nintendo that there really is a market on the Wii beyond games with “Wii” or “Mario” in the title.

Xenoblade comes out in Japan on June 10th, I hope these commercials help to sell the game.

Xenoblade Battle Footage

May 19, 2010

Not that long ago Nintendo claimed that it wanted the next Zelda to look as good as Monster Hunter Tri. I thought that to be setting the graphics bar a little low for the up coming Zelda game. Even Nintendo’s Xenoblade seems to have better graphics than Monster Hunter, and depending on what direction Nintendo is taking Zelda with game play I think they could easily surpass Xenoblade. I would like it to at least look as good as the up-coming Super Mario Galaxy 2. Nintendo, I’m sorry I hold you to such a high standard, but it’s your own fault.

Around the turn of the millennium I was in High School and among my interests were things like downloading MIDI files (because my internet was too slow to realistically download MP3s at the time), and playing Super Smash Bros. 64 and Perfect Dark. I also collected pictures of models; I obviously didn’t have a girlfriend at the time. My hobby of collecting model photographs started as just a means to look at attractive women but started me along the path of seeing the female body at a beautiful work of art, and an appreciation for fashion photography.

I have been getting ready for a podcast about Super Mario Bros. 2 by figuring out what music would be best for the break. On the same disk I keep my NSF files (NES music) I have a small portion of the pictures I collected over that time period of my life, I thought that I would share some of them.

Wow, is the quality of these images terrible by the way.

Pokewalker Get!

May 19, 2010

After about a week of not having my Pokewalker, I found it a Chris’ house.

Now my nameless Onxy is saved and I am back to earning Watts.
